Printing on Hairy Manilla (Kraft Brown)

Our Hairy Manilla material is available in a range of weights from 100g - 400g, and is made from 100% recycled fibres. The manufacturing process is completely chlorine-free, resulting in a textured, sturdy board with a natural, organic feel. This material is great for boxes, greetings cards, postcards and packaging.

Can you print white ink on Hairy Manilla paper?

Unfortunately we are unable to print white ink on Hairy Manilla. If your design includes white elements or a white background, these areas will remain unprinted, revealing the natural brown colour of the paper/card.

How do colours look on kraft brown?

Darker colours and muted tones work best on Hairy Manilla, as they are less affected by the brown background. Natural hues compliment the board well, and black offers a strong contrast. Keep in mind that all colours will be slightly altered by the underlying Hairy Manilla colour.

Are there any colours I should avoid?

Yes - white, yellow, and other light colours generally don’t show up well. Hairy Manilla board is highly absorbent, which means pale colours can lose their intensity and appear washed out. To get the best results, stick to bold, darker shades. If maintaining vibrancy is essential, we recommend choosing a lighter material such as white or ivory.

What type of designs work best on Hairy Manilla?

For the best results, opt for bold, simple line graphics. Finely detailed images such as photographs, or logos with gradients don’t translate well onto Hairy Manilla board.

How do I know if my design is suitable?

If you are unsure how your design will look, feel free to reach out, we are usually able to look over the design or run a test print to check before proceeding with the order.
